Kingdom of God

For the past 5 years I have been studying on this particular subject in the Bible. The passage that really got my attention was in the book of Matthew, chapter 6 and verse 33. It says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." For many weeks and months I kept asking myself, why does it say to seek it? And why first? What does it mean to seek it first? How do I seek it? Where do I seek it? What is this righteousness they're talking about?! I was confused for several months, and even years! Even the word things got my attention. And all these things shall be added unto you?

Then one day a passage in the bible was so clear on the subject if the kingdom of God. The scripture was in the book of Isaiah, chapter 34, and verse 16. It reads "Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail; None shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit hath gathered them." It was so clear from that point on, every question I had, the answers where in the bible!

I knew where to seek now, the book of the Lord which is the bible. And now I looked the words in that scripture from the gospel of Matthew in chapter 6 verse 33. The word that came into my mind was first. So I looked the word first up in the dictionary which I already knew what first meant of course. But I was curious to know if their was other meanings to it. The word beginning was the other word. I went through the new testament seeking the words of beginning and first where in the bible. And boy did I find many passages referring to those specific words. But the scripture that caught my eye was John 1:1,"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." And in Revelation 1:8 says "I an Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending...". And in verse 11 again says "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last...". This is Jesus speaking. He refers Himself as the first, as it is written in Matthew 6:33, seek ye first! I came to the conclusion that the scripture was talking about Jesus and his way, and his kingdom.

There are many views on the kingdom of God. Many theologians fight over the meaning of it, and many others lose friends over the subject. But the meaning is so simple, KINGDOM! When you cut the word in half, you have King and dom. Every body knows who or what a king means. If you finished grade 1 that is. What about the other half of the word, dom. It means Dominion, the Dominion of the King. And that king is Jesus himself, for one of his names is the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. In the bible in Isaiah 9:6, it reads "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Notice on the third sentence it says the government will be upon His shoulder. The scripture is referring to Jesus. Jesus always said when he preached, "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand!"

What the scripture was saying about the government is that Jesus is bringing the governing principles of the kingdom of God. What Jesus was saying when he said "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand!" is "Divorce the worlds way of doing things, and come to me for I give you a better way, God's way of doing things."
